1) Upcoming Short Courses

Escape the winter doldrums and join us in Tempe, Arizona, for
our third annual spring MATLAB and Process Chemometrics
Courses! The courses will be taught back to back at the
Embassy Suites, March 26-30, 2001. The hands-on courses may
be taken together or separately. The MATLAB course (March 26-
27) is intended for beginning to intermediate users who would
like to apply MATLAB more effectively in general scientific
and engineering problems. Process Chemometrics (March 28-30)
is aimed at process engineers and process analytical chemists
who would like to utilize their data more effectively. For
complete info please see the course description.

Kim Esbensen will join Eigenvector to present Introduction to
Multivariate Image Analysis, in Chelan, WA, June 11-12, 2001.
It will be followed immediately by Applied Multi-way
Analysis, June 13-14. Here is your chance to learn about
cutting edge techniques AND visit beautiful Lake Chelan. The
course will be held at the Lakeside Lodge, about 150 feet
from the beach. Please see the complete course description.

Rasmus Bro and Barry Wise will teach Applied Multi-way
Analysis at the Seventh Scandinavian Symposium on
Chemometrics (SSC7) on August 19, 2001. Registration will be
handled by the SSC7 conference organizers.

Neal Gallagher and Jeremy Shaver will present Developing and
Applying Advanced Chemometrics On-line with MATLAB,
PLS_Toolbox and The Unscrambler¨ at the upcoming Federation
of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS)
conference in Detroit, MI. The two day course will be October
6-7, 2001. See the course synopsis for additional information.

Need chemometrics training at your site? Eigenvector has a
rapidly expanding curriculum available. In addition to the
courses listed above, we have courses that focus specifically
on process monitoring, inferential sensors for use in process
control, and SIMULINK. Write to bmw@eigenvector.com for
more information.

2) Jeremy Shaver Joins Eigenvector Research

Eigenvector is happy to announce that Jeremy M. Shaver,
Ph.D., has joined our staff. Dr. Shaver has considerable
experience in process analytical chemistry and hyper spectral
imaging. He was worked extensively with Raman spectroscopy,
recently completing the "Chemometrics for Raman Spectroscopy"
chapter of the Handbook of Raman Spectroscopy (Marcel Dekker,
in press). Jeremy has significant experience with MATLAB,
including development of on-line applications.

Dr. Shaver resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan, creating
Eigenvector's first office east of the Mississippi. We look
forward to his contributions to our teaching, consulting and
software activities. Contact him at shaver@eigenvector.com or
view his resume.

3) New Eigenvector Associates Mike Piovoso and Kim Esbensen

We'd also like to welcome our newest associates, Drs. Mike
Piovoso and Kim Esbensen. Mike, recently retired from Dupont
where he was well known for his work in process monitoring
and control, is now an Associate Professor of Engineering at
the Penn State Great Valley Campus. Kim Esbensen, professor
of chemometrics at Telemark Institute of Technology in
Porsgrunn, Norway, has over 20 years of experience in
multivariate data analysis. He is known for his work, with
Paul Geladi, in pioneering Multivariate Image Analysis (MIA).

We look forward to working with Mike and Kim, along with
Eigenvector Associates Bruce Kowalski, Rasmus Bro, Tormod
N¾s, Klaas Faber and Roma Tauler. Whatever your chemometric
needs are, we've got you covered!

4) PLS_Toolbox News

PLS_Toolbox 2.1.1 for MATLAB 6.0 is now available. It was
released on January 22, 2001. While 2.1.1 sounds like it
would be a small change over 2.1, we have greatly improved
the integration of PLS_Toolbox with MATLAB 6. For example,
the Launcher window now allows users to access PLS_Toolbox
documentation, support web site, and demo routines directly.
Many thanks to the kind folks at The MathWorks for helping us
out with this! Registered 2.0 and 2.1 users can download the
update in our PLS_Toolbox 2.1 User Area.

5) Eigenvector Founder Wise wins EAS Chemometrics Award

Barry M. Wise, President of Eigenvector Research and Co-
founder, with Neal Gallagher, will be the recipient of this
year's Eastern Analytical Symposium Chemometrics Award. The
Award, in recognition of significant contributions to the
field of chemometrics, will be presented at a half-day
symposium in Dr. Wise's honor during the 2001 EAS meeting,
October 1-4. See the Eigenvector Homepage for more info.
