1) Upcoming Short Courses
Eigenvector has a calendar full of courses reaching into 2001. For the latest updates, check the Eigenvector Home Page.
Eigenvector Associate Tormod Næs will join Barry Wise in Las Vegas to offer "Getting the Most out of Complex Multivariate Data,", Sept. 21-22. The course is held in conjunction with the Fourth International Conference on Environmetrics and Chemometrics.
Eigenvector Associate Rasmus Bro joins Neal Gallagher and Barry Wise to offer "Applied Multi-way Analysis" in Nashville, TN, just prior to FACSS. This is a great starter course for those dealing with 3-D and higher arrays. Don't miss the next big wave in chemometrics!
If you can't make it to "Applied Multi-way Analysis" in Nashville, join Rasmus Bro and Barry Wise at CAC-2000 in Antwerp, Belgium. Click on the "Course" link on the CAC-2000 Home Page.
Eigenvector will also be offering Process Chemometrics at Murdoch University, Rockingham Campus, in Perth, Western Australia, Nov. 30-Dec. 2. The 3-day, hands-ocourse is being underwritten by the Rockingham Campus and will be offered for the low price of $999AUD (~$585USD)!
Chemometrics: Focus on Mass Spectroscopy will be offered prior to the American Society for Mass Spectroscopy's Sanibel Conference, on Sanibel Island, Florida, January 19, 2001.
Need chemometrics training at your site? Eigenvector has a rapidly expanding curriculum available. Besides our three day process chemometrics course, we also have courses that focus specifically on process monitoring, multi-way analysis, and the development of inferential sensors for use in process control. Write to bmw@eigenvector.com for more information.

2) Get Your 'do it 3-way'
Hat at FACSS
The first 50 registered users of PLS_Toolbox to visit us at FACSS Booth 305 will receive one of our spiffy new 'do it 3-way' baseball style caps. We made the hats to emphasize our commitment to the development and application of multi-way (3-way and higher) methods, which are increasingly important in batch process monitoring and advanced analytical techniques. Can't get to FACSS but want a cap? Write to our Terry Lane and she'll send you one for $19.95 plus postage.

3)
Chemometrics On-line Using MATLAB
Due to popular demand, Eigenvector Research is currently developing on-line chemometric tools using MATLAB as the computational engine. Recently, we were encouraged to host a meeting to outline how MATLAB and the PLS_Toolbox could be used to apply advanced chemometrics methods to on-line analyzers and processes. This meeting was attended by representatives from 10+ companies, including end-user companies, analyzer vendors, and The MathWorks. Many of the needs of the process community for on-line chemometrics were identified, and the level of cooperation between the different groups was very high. Among the top priorities identified, ease of use was a major theme. Applications identified for an initial release included regression (e.g. PLS and LWR), PCA, and instrument standardization.
We are presently outlining product specifications. If you have an interest in participating in the conversation you can subscribe to the MATLAB On-line list by sending a message with subject SUBSCRIBE to on-line@lists.eigenvector.com. We will also be looking for beta testers as the product nears release, so interested parties should stay posted to the list. Anybody looking for a summary of meeting, or if you have questions, please contact Neal Gallagher at nealg@eigenvector.com.

4) PLS_Toolbox News
The latest update of PLS_Toolbox is 2.0.1f, which was released on March 20, 2000. This update fixes a couple minor bugs. It is compatible with MATLAB versions 5.2 through 5.3.1 (Release 11.1). This is a free upgrade to PLS_Toolbox 2.0 users and can be downloaded from our web site using your assigned username and password. Find out what version you are using by typing 'ver' at the MATLAB prompt. For more information on PLS_Toolbox 2.0, please see the PLS_Toolbox home page.
