Manson is in the State of Washington (not to be confused with Washington D.C.), which is in the Northwest portion of the United States as indicated by the arrow in the figure:
Washington State is divided into East and West halves by the Cascade Mountain Range. The Cascades keep the West half of Washington very wet and the East half quite dry. The mountains also divide the state politically, with the wetsiders tending towards big city liberals and the dry siders tending towards conservative farmers.
The town of Manson is located on the East Slope of the Cascades on the shores of Lake Chelan. Lake Chelan, 55 miles long and 1500+ feet deep, was carved out of the Cascades during the last ice age. It is the gateway to the North Cascades, the most inacessible region in the contiguous U.S.
