1) Upcoming Short Course

Eigenvector is returning to Chicago, March 13-17, 2000. We'll be offering two days of MATLAB followed by three days of Process Chemometrics at Illinois Institute of Technology. The hands-on courses can be taken together or separately. If you really want to learn MATLAB as well as chemometrics, this course combination is the one for you. Get complete course information at:

<http://www.eigenvector.com/Courses/ChicagoInfo.html>

Need chemometrics training at your site? Eigenvector has a rapidly expanding curriculum available. Besides our three day process chemometrics course, we also have courses that focus specifically on process monitoring, multi-way analysis, and the development of inferential sensors for use in process control. Write to bmw@eigenvector.com for more information.

2) PLS_Toolbox News

Rasmus Bro, Associate Professor at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL) in Copenhagen, Denmark, has joined the PLS_Toolbox development team. Rasmus, well known for his work in multi-way analysis including his public domain Multi-way Toolbox, will spearhead the multi-way tools development for the next version of PLS_Toolbox. Welcome aboard Rasmus!

The latest update of PLS_Toolbox is 2.0.1d, which was released on January 5, 2000. This update fixes a couple minor plotting bugs and makes several slight improvements. It is compatible with MATLAB versions 5.2 (for you Mac users) through 5.3.1 (Release 11.1). This is a free upgrade to PLS_Toolbox 2.0 users and can be downloaded from our web site using your assigned username and password. Find out what version you are using by typing 'ver' at the MATLAB prompt. For more information on PLS_Toolbox 2.0, please see:

3) Eigenvector Research Turns 5

Eigenvector Research turned 5 on January 1, 2000. As we start our sixth year, we'd like to thank everyone who's made it possible, including the 500+ people who have attended our short courses, the ~1000 users of PLS_Toolbox, and the many companies that have hired us for consulting projects ranging from MSPC in semiconductor manufacture to spectroscopic analysis of automobile emissions. Its been great working with all of you! Thanks again -- BMW and NBG

4) MATLAB WebRing

What's a WebRing? A WebRing is a set of related web sites that are linked together. They all share a common navigation button on selected pages that move you from site to site. Recently, a MATLAB Ring has been developed. Right now it includes only about a dozen sites, but given the number of MATLAB users (600,000+) and third party products available, we expect it to grow rapidly. You can jump onto the ring from our home page at

<http://www.eigenvector.com/>

(look for the "MATLAB Ring" icon) or find out more about the whole WebRing concept at

<http://www.webring.org/>

5) Internet User Services at Eigenvector

Eigenvector provides a number of internet based services for chemometricians and MATLAB users. The first of these is the Eigenvector Data Archive. These data sets are freely available to anyone wishing to test data analysis algorithms (or students!). Currently, data sets include NIR of corn samples, NIR of diesel fuels, and semiconductor etch. The sets are located at:

<http://www.eigenvector.com/Data/Data_sets.html>

The MATLAB user area includes downloadable functions. If you'd like to make your code available, consider posting it here or suggesting a link. The MATLAB area is at:

<http://www.eigenvector.com/MATLABarea.html>

The PLS_Toolbox discussion list is open to all registered PLS_Toolbox users. Discussion about PLS_Toolbox specific or general chemometric analysis is welcomed. To join the list, send a message with subject "subscribe" to PLS_Toolbox@lists.eigenvector.com. Your subscribe request will forwarded to the listmaster for approval.

Registered PLS_Toolbox users can also exchange data and functions using the file exchange area on the Eigenvector web site. To enter the site, go to

<http://www.eigenvector.com/PLS2/Files/>

and be ready with your username and password.
